Choices Wall Paneling my Living Room

I am in the beginning stages of paneling my living room. I want to make sure my final decision on what style and color will be the best fit to the room when making my final wall paneling purchasing decision.

I was hoping I could get some sort of input on the effects different styles (wood, stone, brick, etc...) and shades (light or dark) have on the overall perspective of the room.

With all the available choices, I was hoping someone with more experience could explain the advantages and disadvantages
that go along with the variety of wall paneling available today.
