Relatively Speaking, This was a Hearth Warming Idea

My nephew Zack called me last night asking about my views on wall mounted fireplaces. He’s a good kid late twenties and newly married. He just moved to Michigan for a new job and bought a small condominium. If you know anything about winters in Michigan they are not very pleasant. Snow capped nights and blustery winter winds are in my nephews forecast.

I have not seen Zach’s’ new place, but it sounded like it was fairly equipped with all the modern conveniences. He went on to explain that in his last place he would walk into his front door and immediately see his fireplace. He said he remembered just looking at it gave him comfort and security whether the fire was lit or not. He went on with the conversation questioning what knowledge I had between gas, gel fuel and electric wall mounted fireplaces. I admitted to knowing a miniscule amount, but I promised him that with a little research I would give him and informed opinion.

It Was Time to Get One for Myself

For my own living quarters there are two built in fireplaces one in the living room and one in the family room. For both, you are able to use wood or natural gas. To be honest there is a wall in my own bedroom that would be perfect for this feature. I just never got around to looking for it. This gives me two reasons to get to work.

There is an abundance of flueless models on the market so you don’t need a chimney in order to have one fitted. They not only heat the room, but they also create an elegance and sophisticated ambience. All of these models can be mounted at eye level to provide the focal point in the room.

Vent free gas models are available but must be installed by a qualified and licensed natural gas technician. This installation process could be quite expensive to undertake. Electric and gel fuel models are both environmentally friendly, clean burning and non toxic. They both feature no soot, smoke or ashes to clean up and are also designed as vent free.

The gel fuel models last about three hours when burning. The fuel is somewhat expensive and when talking with professionals, most gel fuel models are used for decorative purposes rather then for heating. Some consumers place candles in them for aesthetic purposes. The advantage for an electric wall mounted fireplace is you just plug it in and there is nothing to buy. Your electric bill will rise, but you can keep in check by monitoring the amount of time the fireplace is in use.

They combine the flame effect and crackling sounds that you would expect from a real fire with a modern twist. The ease of installation, flexibility, prices and style has made them very popular. You can find classic, traditional and modern designs that will compliment any decor.

I sent my nephew a few links I had come across with a variety of styles and price ranges. With the help of my wife, we finally bought one and we are waiting for ours to arrive. We choose an electric model in brushed stainless steal finish. We also purchased the fireplace tools in that identical finish.

Feeling Warm and Cozy is What You are Looking For

Last night I received another call from my nephew who was ecstatic. He and his wife were sitting by their gel fuel fireplace each with a cup of hot choco in hand. I could hear the crackling noise in the background and just listing to them both gave me that warm comforting feeling inside. wall mounted fireplace
