Three glorious years ago my family moved into our dream house. It was large but not so enormous that it would be too hard to maintain. It seemed to be perfect. Our only dilemma was that after the down payment, closing costs and the many rooms of new furniture there was very little we had left to spend.

Like any new homeowner you wanted to personalize your surroundings. The bare, stark, sterile walls seemed to be pleading for excitement. We had a few pictures, mirrors and wall sconces but it lacked luster and brilliance that I deeply wanted to portray.

For several weekends in a row I browsed all the home decorating stores in my area. I priced the many gallons of paint or wall coverings that would be needed. Besides the hefty dollar amount, the work and labor was not attainable to accommodate our work schedules. Every time I entered my home it just didn’t feel like it was mine. I craved warmth, excitement and creativity. Instead what I encountered was cold, dull and bland.

Then it hit me like a brick! Going online I found numerous stores that carried wall graphics that seemed to be made for me. There is no other way to describe it. They’re perfect for how they gave me the outlet to individualize my space.

Here are the many positive aspects of this technique. You do not have to be artistic or technical. They are made to look like paint and will fit anyone’s budget. They allow you the freedom to decorate your walls in no time at all. There is a plethora of themes, sizes, shapes, colors and patterns. The most common material is vinyl although other materials are available. There is photographic paper, fabric, canvas or polypropylene film.

You never have the mess of paste. The material is always backed with temporary or permanent adhesive. They all use high quality ink technology so your wall graphics can be maintained for many years. Most are cut using a digital cutting machine which assures clean crisp edges that will not peel away from the wall.

It seems to freshen up your walls and is the best alternative to painting walls. Purchasing the temporary adhesive backed wall graphics means you will never get board of your decor. Just peel it off and it leaves no marks or residue. You can add, change and let your imagination run wild. Your only limitations is your creative imagination.

Graphic wall art comes in different forms. You can buy this art form as stickers, decals, murals, lettering or wallpaper. There are companies that will custom design a style or you may choose any image, picture, poem or quote. Whatever your decorating tastes, it lets you express yourself in modern, abstract, classic or contemporary fashion. It lets you be you.

Since most of us do not live alone, graphic wall art fits like a glove for the entire family. My son is glued to sports and through the internet his surroundings are filled with custom wall decals. There in the center of the wall is a decal of my son kicking the winning field goal for his team.

This art form doesn’t exclude girls. My daughter like most teens has the phone glued to her ear. We found a kit that was large enough for the wall behind her bed. This wall mural had pictures of cell phones, I-pods, and tons of teens talking. There were phrases, and song lyrics amongst colorful and stimulating designs.

Both my kids love their rooms. With the help of graphic wall art, they find their room’s comfortable and great place to do homework or just hang out. The great part is, as they change so can their walls.

Whether your plans are to decorate one room or the entire house, graphic wall art will compliment your decor and become the topic for discussion. It all depends what you choose and where you hang it. One thing is for sure, its eye appealing and brings your distinct personality alive.
