Why, they played outside, kick the can, hide and go seek, played baseball, played street touch football and even went for a bike ride here and there.
With no cell phones to call your child to come home, parents in bigger cities would say, "Junior, make sure you are home by the time the street lights are on." Or the early form of parent child communication was for the parent to stick their head out the front door or front window and yell, "Bobby, it's time to come home."
Yeah, these were simpler times. These were times when buying a coloring book for your pre-schooler was a good way to keep them busy. You get a box of crayons and a coloring book or two and your little guy or gal would keep busy for hours.
