Come Into The Garden
Where Did You Get That Garden Plaque Every year, when it comes to gardening, my wife is like "Little Ms. Green Thumb". It all starts in the fall. That's when Barbara, my wife, will take me on a tour of every garden center of every home store in the county. She is on the search for flower bulbs to plant in the ground, so that the garden around our home is in full bloom in early Spring. Every year she will pick out about 40 to 50 new flower bulbs and plant them in the ground. Barbara will start with the flower bed around the tree out in front of our home. Then she will go to the flower bed directly on the front wall, work her way to the flower bed on the side of our home, and finally end up in the 3 flower beds in our back yard. Cabin Fever Since we live in a climate that includes all four seasons, around the end of January to the beginning of February, Barb has had enough of winter and all she talks about is what she will be planting in our gardens in the spring. Time to Plow The North 40 Around the end of April, Barb and I take tour of all the garden centers in the county again. This time she is looking for Annual Seedlings. This time I help her with picking out these flowers. I like to make sure that we get a good mixture of colorful plants. When we get home with all the flats of flowers, (about 500 flowers in all), I know that I have my job and Barb has her job in the garden. My job in the garden is the tilling of the soil and fertilizing. From there barb takes over and ever so carefully and artistically proceeds to plant each of the Annual Seedlings one at a time until all the plants are in the ground surrounding our home.
